At 6 pm on December 21, I was on duty with the ambulance service where I work. I had just completed a patient transfer to a neighboring county when my phone pager activated. It was my oldest daughter paging me to tell me to come home because my wife was very sick. I headed toward home and called to speak to my wife of almost 23 years and she was in so much pain she could hardly talk. I picked up the radio mic to send another ambulance to my home ahead of me, and about that time, all three other units were dispatched to a bad head on collision. We lit the ambulance up and made a 32 mile trip in 15 minutes (four lane). A quick assessment led me to believe she had a brain bleed.
At the local hospital, a ct scan confirmed my fears, and we then transferred her to a Huntington W Va. hospital. There she was diagnosed quickly with a 9 mm
aneurism that had ruptured, but the bleeding was almost stopped. She underwent a Neuro-Radiological Intervention that took only half the time that was estimated, the procedure was successful, and she got to come home yesterday. I am truly thankful, and pray that God's grace surrounds those who were not as fortunate. Merry Christmas to all!

I am glad to hear she made it thru the ordeal and I wish her a full recovery and I wish you the best in dealing with this situation. I can imagine you do not want to leave her side right about now. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, and you are right. I don't want to leave her for a minute. She still has some intracranial pressure that will take a little while to dissipate. I'm going to take off a couple of weeks to take care of her. Right now she is resting in anticipation of our 2 granddaughters visit.

I'm so glad things are going well with her recovery, Jeff.
Most people with this type of aneurism don't make it past the ER. I've not been that scared since I had to perform cpr on my youngest daughter. She was 4 months old, vomited in her sleep and aspirated. She will be 14 in 5 days.

I woke up in the middle of the night when my daughter was around 5 months. I don't know if she made a noise of if I knew something wasn't wrong but I went to check on her and just as I left my room (across the hall), she started vomiting. I immediately turned her on her side and started talking to her and patting her back. It was one of the scariest moments in my life and I slept in her room for about a week before I felt she was well and I didn't have to worry. Today she is 3 and has been loving Christmas. Santa did well this year.

I hope she is feeling well enough to be able to enjoy the grand kids visit.

She hadn't been able to rest very well due to the ongoing headache, but today she has had several periods of little or no pain. The only pain medicine that worked in the hospital was Tylenol. It usually wears off before the next dose, so when she needs it, I give her a motrin to supplement, and it is also an antiinflammatory. her vision is temporarily impaired and she can't wear her glasses, but she can see (sort of fuzzy). The Dr. said that should correct itself as soon as the swelling goes down. I'm going to make sure she has it real easy for a while.

I will be posting as much as I can during the next 2 weeks as I will be home taking care of Beth. Thanks for the encouraging words and concern. Any prayers offered up on her behalf for continued healing would be greatly appreciated.

Well:eek: I didn't know I had a wife:eek:

Willis, I think you got me confused with Jeff who is married and it is his wife that needs prayers.

If I did have a wife I hope she would look like one of these beautiful ladies (now who wouldn't donate to the Salvation army with these ladies gaurding the tub:D )

Thanks for thinking about us but don't take time away from your wife just to keep us happy. Maybe if you can move your computer to Beths bedside...:)

Try to keep your spirits up and don't worry as I am sure she will be fine with you looking after her.

Please add my prayers for a FULL RECOVERY to your growing list of supporters. Every day from this one forward will feel blessed. Great news for Christmas!

Can you elaborate on the procedure you mentioned? Did the treatment not require surgery?

Update: Beth had a rough day with only a few short pain free periods, but we're holding steady. My boss told me to take what time I needed to get her better. She is resting a little right now. The procedure she underwent is similar to a heart cath where they enter the femoral artery and then advance a "wire" to the area in question while radio active dye is injected into the veins to show the area to be repaired. In the case of a cerebral problem, the patient is put to sleep and placed on a breathing machine to assure there is no way the patient can move involuntarily.A plug, that is called a coil, is used to stop the leak or rupture. No fluid is removed with this procedure, hence the head pain. It will continue to decrease as the body removes the fluid and pressure on the brain is relieved. The pain drives her nuts at times, but she does continue to show small positive improvements daily. Pain management for her is Tylenol. Stronger medicine would sedate her, but might mask symptoms of complications if they were to occur.
