My dad died this week. It would be unfair for me to mourn. Here was a man who lived 93 years. He was happily married to the same woman for 67 years. He was able to retire at 45 and then went sailing until he was 85. So with all the suffering in the world it would be churlish for me to be too upset.

That doesn't mean I won't miss him. He lived in England whilst I moved to the States so the saturday morning phone call was the major source of communicating. I dont think I can remember him ever being really cross, but that phone call was the time to lock horns on politics. We were diametrically opposed but I'll let you guess which pole we occupied

I am going on the fourth week after loosing my MOM. She to was young, had just had her 81 st birhday a week before her passing.
Married almost the 60 years also.Your posting here has been uplifting for me, as I am taking it a lot different.I realize the loss etc. But everyday I do some 'thinking' and find myself upset. It effects everyone differently,I know with time I will be able to deal with it much more.
I agree we ned to realize just how lucky we are from one day to the next.

I'm a latecomer to this one, but as my folks have been gone for the past five years, (my dad was 96), . . I will share this with you: They say "time-heals" and that is true for many things.

But with the loss of a loved one,..."time" doesn't necessarily "heal",..at least in the sense of making it all better. No, not really,..but "time" is a truly great help in "getting-used-to-the-idea-of-loss".

So that, as you get used to the loved one not being there,..especially when you "expect" them to be,..or when you suddenly want to share some good news with them, you pick up the phone,...and remember!! Yes it hurts every time,. (for a while) but as you experience these disappointments and get more "accustomed" to them, time seems to heal because getting used to it makes each experience just a wee bit "easier".

So for "me" personally,..I'm pretty used to things now and as the song says: "it don't hurt anymore", ...it's just extremely "disappointing" not to be able to... ~"share"~ some of the wondrous things, like a grandbaby or two and things like that!

I realize it's only a few months for you,..but I know it will get easier with time so hang in there and cherish the good thoughts and memories!! Time may surprize you too because with time, some of the best "forgotten" memories will "ease-into-focus",..and a loving smile will ease onto your face !! Don't wait for it, don't look for it,..try to forget I said it because it may not see fruition for a long time,..if ever,.. but if and when,..it's beautiful!
