First a little background. My wife and I purchased this property in February. The barn needed work and what little fencing that was here was barb wire. Our Arabian horses know nothing about barb wire so I ripped it out. After getting the barn somewhat squared away, I had a little interuption in my plans with some hernia surgury before I could get back to the fencing.
Anyway, I finally got the fence somewhat up and running and we put our eight mares out this afternoon for a trial run. These horses have been confined to stalls or paddocks since February but to see them run as we walked them out two at a time was worth the effort to say the least.
Watching them run and roll and frollick until they finally settled down to the task at hand (eating grass) was really neat. Best of all, no one got hurt. We brought them in after about three hours.
There is just something about watching a group of horses run free that says in spite of the problems of the day, there is hope!
We also had two geldings out in another area and a new to the group quarter horse mare that my daughter in law just bought. Tomorrow, I should be able to get my one stallion out and in about three days the other stallion will be able to get out.
