9N steering

I brought my Dad's 9N home; the front wheels keep moving inward/toe in, sometimes in a matter of feet. I can straighten them out by hand. You can feel and hear, as though the teeth on the steering sectors are skipping.

Reading in the manual(FO-4), there is some adjustment by removing the steering wheel, and adjusting the steering shaft itself. It really feels like skipping teeth...

The odd thing, is the tie rod end at the sector shaft seems to be rubbing on the bellhousing. I wonder if the sector shaft arms are bent inward...

My Dad parked it a couple years ago. It is rough but ran good; don't foresee problems getting it running. Seems to be early 9N with the aluminum steering housing.

I bet the bushings are gone or worn, and now your gear set is too if it keeps slipping

Ditto what soundguy said. Also since your tractor is a '39/'40 model it will have the wedge bolts in the steering arms which will ware out and cause the knoch in the spindle to widen. You will see the head of the wedge bolt sucked in from over tightening. If you gear selectors are worn out I might have a set.
