The price is around 30 bucks now so you really can't go wrong and installation is so simple. I don't know what it is with the turf tires and snow but because they are so wide I get good traction. Normally the narrower the tire the better traction you get in some cases.

I have had turfs and R-4's and on my 4th tractor. I found the turfs did a better job on snow/ice and hard ground (dirt, pavement, gravel, grass ect) than R-4's. The only increase in traction for the R-4 tire is loose dirt (working ground) and mud. turf tire ball up in mud. now this is my 2 cents worth, I don't want to start a tire war. just my experiance.

Concur with you, I think the wide tread of the turfs makes them grip well on most surfaces. I thought mine would pack up with snow and lose traction but the tread is surprisingly self cleaning. Used a friend's NH 1520 4wd to backfill mostly clay soil in a pouring rain two years ago, even with turfs and greasy soil underneath it never lost all traction.

I have a 790 and push the snow up hill (away from the main road). I ususally use B1 or B2, with the bucket level or angled slightly upward (using the level indicator) and in float position.
