I looked up your tractor and it tips the scale at 3,000#. My 28 HP tractors FEL weighs 810# so lets say yours weighs 1,000# being a 33 HP tractor. Most 3 point BH this size weight about 1,200#. So this should have you at 5,200#. My 18' trailer weights 1,400# empty so yours is probably 1,200# to 1,300#. You will be right at the max our slightly over. Don't forget to add in the weight or your chains, shovels, ect.

thanks em14 and chris. i thought i'd be at or close to the max. do you think it may be time for a bigger trailer?

Yes, probably time for a bigger trailer. What are you towing with? The big problem with this tractor and trailer combo is having the deck room to get the load situated right to level out the load. I would go to at least a 20' trailer with 5,200# or 6,000# axles. But again it depends on your truck. Remember, your trailers GVWR can not exceed your trucks towing capacity even empty. Example is a 1/2 ton truck with a 9,000# tow rating can not tow a 12,000# trailer with your load on it. If you have a 3/4 ton truck or bigger you will be ok as long as its not a gas V8 version.

hey chris, thanks for the quick response. i have an 84 chevy k30 1 1/4 ton (1008 CUCV military) pick up. i also have an 84 chevy 1 ton (1009 CUCV) blazer. i'm looking to pick up the machine in the next few days and would prefer using the blazer. trailer and machine shouldn't weigh more than 7000lbs (+/-). curious about your last sentence... i could use a 3/4 ton truck or bigger but not gas?... why not gas v8 version? does this have something to do with the need for a cdl (trailer/equipment over 10k)?

No, the gas V8 statement was saying the current 3/4 ton trucks with a gas V8 usually have a tow rating of 10,000# or less so they will not work for your needs. You would need a diesel or one of the larger V8's or the V10's from Ford or Dodge. You should have no problems with these heavy duty trucks you have but check the tow ratings in the owners manuals to be sure. If your truck does not have a manual or no section on towing check the data plate for the GCVWR and subtract the trucks weight and this will give you the tow rating. For example my F-350 has a GCVWR of 23,000# and weighs 7,600# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel. So in this case the tow rating is 15,400#.
