JD appears to be mailing $900 rebate forms to early purchasers of the JD4000 line of tractors, with the rebate to be used to purchase another tractor in the 4000 line. As usual, my timing was poor since I already replaced my original 4400 with a new one six months ago and didn't see any fine print about the rebate being retroactive. For some of you that were early purchasers of the 4000 line and are wanting to trade or purchase a new 4000 series compact diesel, the $900 rebate should be of help--mine was in the mail yesterday. Mike,
What would you define as<font color=blue> earlier purchasers of 4000 series?</font color=blue> I purchased my tractor new in 6/2000,but the manufacture date was 11/1999./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sorry that those details only JD knows. Apparently they have some cutoff date, but did not disclose it in their letter. In their letter, they mentioned that since the early models of the 4xxx series came out, that they have made hundreds of changes making them more convenient, as well as adding significantly to their reliability and durability. Their letter indicates that since I was among the first to purchase one of the 4xxx series, that I am entitled to the $900 rebate in addition to any other savings and discounts now in force--BUT no indication of the cutoff date. With all of the issues my first 4400 had, they should have had even more sympathy than $900;-) Mike_S

Sounds like they're trying to blow out the 4x00s before the 4x10s come out.

Hillbilly--again, good for you! BUT, the fine print on the bottom of the backside of the voucher sent to me indicated that the offer was only valid July 28, 2001 through October 26, 2001--so you had apparently had some help from your dealer or JD likes you;-) Mike_S.

Mike,
That is the same dates on mine. I do not even know whether I will bother with trying to work a deal,I talked to one dealer about a month ago,and he told me he did not want to trade(or it would be very hard to trade and come back and see him when the new 4010 series arrived,he was wanting to get the 4000 series off the lot. $900 is not really very much for all of the problems versus the better tractor you would get with the 4010 series. They said in the letter they had made hundreds of improvements on the 4000 series from inception to today. I would like to know what they are one by one. They just want to clear the lots of the new 4000 series, not make anything right,if they wanted they could have made the offer good on the 4010 series or any John deere product or offered free financing in addition to the exsisting 4000 series on the lots.

I think Hillbilly is right. This is a classic "firesale" discount to clear out old merchandise. I wouldnt buy or trade for a 4000 now.

I am tempted to send the rebate back to JD and tell them I would rather have a 2 year extension on my warranty. Anytime you trade a tractor as new as mine you lose your tail end.The dealers are not interested a 4000 series unless you give it to them.
