I have a 1948 8N and when I start it, it seems like he wants to start but dies down after a couple of seconds and seems to run only on one cylinder. I changed the wires from carbon to steel but no luck. The only way it will run is if I tow it behind the 4wheeler. Any suggestions?

I also have a Ford 3000 with no auxiliary hydraulic on and I want to connect a wood splitter. Where could I install the fittings for hydraulics. If you had illustrations it would help.
Thanks,
J-P

check spark at all plugs. if spark is orange or read, weak or non existant, do a tune up including all electrical connections ( key switch too ).. post back.

i hope you have plenty of time.

yes.. you CAN run some hyds off the 3000's engine pump.. but don't get in any hury.

cheapest way to do it is if you have a log splitter with an open center valve on it. make up a right angle fitting that goes to a quick disconnect and put it in place of the plug on the 3x5 cover under the seat... from there you run a hose to the in port on your valve. work ports on your valve go to the splitter cyl, from the return on your valve, you will dump back into rear end / hyd sump on tractor. this is a low pressure connection. many people take the hyds fill cap off and tap it for a hose barb and slip the hose on when needed, and when not needed, pull hose and barb and install a plug. that side needs no thread good nor does it have to be particularly tight. it's a 0 pressure return.

next, get a piece of chain and a bolt and run thru knuckles on the 3pt and chain the 3pt upper arm to the axle.

start tractor, pull 3pt lift handle up.... that starts oil flowing out oyur connection under the seat to the open center splitter valve, and back to the tractor sump. at this point operating the splitter spool will move the cyl. albiet slowly...

that's the fast n dirty n slow way to do it.
