I use a bungee cord. I just route it up around the top link pin on the tractor. Works easy enough.

I like the clips though from the link in the post above.

It sounds like your hydraulics need to be looked at. I suspect your cam follower pin is worn as well as the cam. Rebuilding the hydraulics is easy with an 8N. The cam follower pin is actually # 73928-S18 Pin for the Draw Bar Control Arm: 5/16" dia. x 1"
