I can't get the battery out of my 8N so it was thinking about taking the hood off, or at least loosen it and tilt it so I can get the battery out. A buddy told me to be careful because it was a pain to get back on. I laughed that off but thought I might ask some of you if you've had problems with old hoods. Seems pretty simple to me, but ain't that the way it always seems? Thanks.

Slide the Battery out about 1/2 way then tilt it down and slip it the rest of the way out while it's tilted. Works on my 8N.

yeah.. it takes some juggling.. but it for sure comes out with the hood in place.

juggling, not "horsing" it out.
Last time I took the battery out, I loosened the bolts on the instrument panel end of the hood. This allowed me to pry the rear end of the hood up a little bit--you don't need much--and the battery slid right out. It helps if you have 2 people doing it, one to raise the hood and one to jockey the battery. You don't want to drop either.

Yeah I'll try this. My dad put a huge battery in there years ago. I remember him saying what a job it was. Can't slide it out far enough to tilt it. I'll have to loosen something up. Thanks for the info.

simple.. don't put such a huge battery in next time.. a grp 1 size is quite fine.

shouldn't have to take any hood parts off to change it out.

Why the negativity?

I simply stated that you shouldn't install a battery so big as to need to dismantle the tine to service it. ( I know you didn't put it in there.. )

it's an easy swapout once you get ready to change it.. then it won't give you any further grief.

if the large battery was used to 'fix' a proble, then you need to investigate that.. IE.. perhaps it has a weak or dragging starter, problems starting.. or bad/insufficent cables, cable ends, or connections, including ground.

was just trying to help you out... won't make that mistake again old8nguy :(

OK soundguy, guess I just read and took it wrong. When I originally read that it sounded like you were talking down to me. Shouldn't have responded so quick. I do appreciate the info and your taking time to respond. I rely on these boards for a lot of info and I don't want any hard feelings with anyone. Again, thanks.
