Snow 8ft back blade for Kubota L4740 good idea?

I run a 7' behind my L3940, and also have a 7' on the front. Weight in the rears will only help with traction. I think (by experience) the problem you will have with the 8' blade is the 'rudder' effect, it will steer your front end in the opposite direction. But, that depends on surface you are driving on, how much ice, weight of snow, depth, etc. Try it, you can always cut off the ends or sell it. Philip.

It looks extremely light duty. You are going to need a heavy duty blade to hold that tractor. Here are some examples in no particular order:

woods
Landpride
tuffline gb4 (this is what I have)
bush hog

For $200 I would buy it without hesitation. As others have said, you can always cut it down to 7', if traction dictates. I run a 7' KK Professional on the back of an L3240 and with deep, wet snow it does tend to wag the dog some, but overall a very good solution to my snow removal needs. You can always weld a stiffener tube or angle section across the back of the blade for a little more strength if you think you will need it.

If possible, check to see if you can spin it 360 degrees when it's hitched to your machine. This has as much to do with the length of the support frame, hitch pins to pivot, as it does with the blade length.

I can't think of this brand at the moment---FMC?-- but I had the exact same thing in 7 ft and pulled it with my L4300DT with front weights and non-loaded tires. It is well-built and rugged. You aren't going to cut down a foot with it but it will work fine.

In any case it is worth the $200. If you never run it a minute I think you could probably buy it for $200 and spend an hour cleaning it up and spray on a few bucks worth of paint and sell it this fall before snow season for $400. And as others have said, you could take a sawzall and trim 6 inches off of each side and repaint in 30 minutes.. A no brainer in my book, buy it.

Should be no problem in the snow. Only issue I see is would be in dirt and maybe not enough traction to cut the full width. But with snow, it is easier pushing/pulling, and you can always take smaller bites. Heck, I have a 700lb 7' blade on my little ole L3400 and manage just fine:thumbsup:

Another caution, on cheaper made blades of longer widths, sometimes the frame isnt made in a way that will allow the blade to spin around 180 degrees without hitting the tires. That can be a PITA cause the only way to spin it around then is to unhook, then spin, then re-hook up. Maybe something to look into before you make a decision.

Good point above---you cannot "spin" it around or it hits the tires. You can plow snow backwards, sort-of, with it if the blades is sloped and you spray in with Pam or paint it with no-stick paint.

I would advise against "pushing" with any back blade..too easy to break something expensive.
