Price Check 86 IH 244 Price and advice

I'm looking into buying a 4WD '86 IH 244 with loader and 400 hrs. The guy is asking $9000. It's in good shape, but it seems a bit high to me. I am also trading in a 4WD Ford 1900(needs some work), and have offererd $4000 for mine. I have been reading posts about the 244, but was wondering if anyone had any other advice about these machines. Some people have talked about overheating problems. Thanks

9000 is way too high for this machine. What 3 pt stuff comes with it? When I was looking to trade in on a new bigger tractor (244 4wd) I was offered 3000 in trade. Granted that is trade in but should not be triple. Seems like 4500-5000 is fair.

I love my 244 4wd. If you keep the screen clean and flush the coolant yearly you will should not have any problems.

I'd say that $9K is high, but don't know what is market value is. Hours are low, which is good.

Out of curiousity what brand loader is on the tractor? IH didn't produce their own loaders at that point, to my knowledge. I'd be sure that the loader manufacturer is still in business and parts are available.

Don't know the 244, but we have 85 or 86 IH 2545 around the farm with about 3000 hrs on it, never any mechanical issues. Only complaint we ever had was the radiatior seemed to plug easily when mowing...the tractor had plenty of power but tended to get hot mowing deep grass unless the radiator was blown out frequently. It had a screen in front but didn't seem to matter much as the material went through and clogged in radiator. Seemed like the fins changed directions too many times and would plug up tight.
