8560 4WD diff lock question

I have been reading about front wheel drive assist tractors...but i am not sure if the 8560 falls under this catagory. Does the front wheels really engage positively in this model? And, when the diff lock pedal is pressed does the front wheels lock as well? or it is only the back differential lockable? Anyone really get one in some slick situations where they could tell how effective the front end pulls as well as the diff lock usage?

Diff lock locks the rear only. The front is a limited slip I think - the 7520 is. The front wheel with a lot of traction will get pretty good driving force until the other loses almost all traction. Then both will deliver equal force at that lo level.

With my 7520, I have NEVER had one front tire spin without the other side spinning also. And what seemed to be at the same rate. So I would agree with Larry and say that they have some sort of limited slip or locker type front trans axle. I have been in mud one time where I could not move without using the diff lock. So 3WD wouldn't do it, but 4WD was enough to get out.

I just got done cleaning out a shallow watering hole that was only 2 feet deep. But half way throu the front tires were under smuck. I had no problem getting traction in the 8560 I would wonder what type of goo would stop it??

6 feet of quick sand,..........................maybe, without the loader on.

All this is excellent news. One step closer to pull the trigger on a 8560. I have several wet weather creeks to cross on the farm and may need to even if the water is high at times. Also we have a VERY sticky clay/gumbo that is tough to get through and a true 4wd would be the best I can ask for. thanks for the replies fellas!!

I have just taken delivery of my new 8000 4WD and believe the running gear and drive line are the same as the 8560 in particular the diffs. Front diff is limited slip, not locked, rear has diff lock and is locked in as long as you have your foot on the lever. Other differences between the two, I'm not sure.

I do not see an 8000 model tractor listed on the Mahindra website. What is the 8000? :confused3: Being in Australia what model would it be the same as here in the United States or is it something completely different?

From what I understand, in Australia, the 8000 is virtually the same as the 8560 but with or without the cab and marginally less HP engine (3HP). The 8560 probably has minor upgrades on hydraulics and gearbox running gear. Below are two AU links ( Mahindra Tractors - Australia ) that will explain the differences.
