Hi everyone,

I have been lurking around the forums for a while now and have found lots of useful info. Thank you.

I have a John Deere 855 24hp yanmar/19pto hp. It has the turf tires and 72" deck. I have owned it for about 2 years and have been buying some attachments over time. Love my Deere!

I am looking for a good tiller for it, the problem is that I don't know what size to go with. I don't want to oversize/undersize it. What is some brands and sizes that you all would suggest?

Also, I am having an issue with my forward foot pedal. From time to time it seems to want to stick. (Not in the forward position) but in the stopped position. I can be backing up to an implement...jump off...hitch up...jump on and the pedal is like stuck. I can't push it down easily. If I push hard it will pop and then take off and be fine but the easiest way I have found is to hit the reverse pedal and then the forward pedal and it will release fine.

I have greased the pedal pedestal but to no avail it still does it. Feels like it is binding up, but I can not find it. Also sometimes it won't start until I mess with the pedals.

Any help would be great??? thanks.

A tiller doesn't take a lot of power to operate, but they need lift capability from the 3pt 'cause they can be heavy. You ought to be able to look that up in your manual. In my view, you need a tiller wide enough (and more) to cover your tracks.

As far as the tiller, I'd think a 5' is going to be all you want on a 855.

As far as the pedal, here's a couple of things to look at. all the pieces are going to be on the inside of the RH frame rail. You may have to drop your deck to get under there enough to see good since you don't know what your looking for.

First the safety rod that the seat pushes down when you sit in the seat runs to a link that locks the pedals in neutral, some of this may be sticking a bit.

second, there are two very small ball bearings that ride in the centering "V" of the plate that controls the hydro actions, they might be getting locked up. They cannot be greased, must be replaced

just a couple of ideas to check

Hi Trailhunter got a question for you. I have a post on the forum about hocking a 72" deck on my 855. Problem is my front arms are to long. Could you measure the front arms that hock to the deck and the front of the tractor. The ones I have are to long when I hock them on the deck they won't fit in the bracket on the front on the tractor.

Thank you joecdeere, that's a very nice blow up. The deck is off right now as I am using a box blade, so I will check that out.

kccowman, I will measure that for you as soon as I can. Is there a from and to point that you would like me to reference from?

Thanks,
Trail

Thanks for the return, I hated to barge in on your forum but I saw you have the machine like I have. Measure the front draft arm from the point where it pins in the deck to where it is hocked to the front crank that connects to the tractor. If you look on my forum page Joedeere posted a picture of the arm. It's number 9 plus the clevis end. I hope that helps. Thanks

KC:

Are you talking about the drop bracket that collects the 1/2 turn crank which draws up the deck's drag links? There are several drop brackets for this part depending on which size tires you have. My dealer gave me every optional part there is to attach my 72" deck to my 1070. There are a pile of these things and the "pork chops" which hold the rear brackets as well. Its quite challenging to get them all lined up AND to find the proper set of holes on the tractor frame.

I think for my tractor it only shows 1 set of arms and crank for my tractor. My arms are to long with my present crank .
