855 secondary air filter install

I took my 855 deere apart today. I was going to install both the primary and secondary air filters. I struggled with this project for an hour. I gave up and installed only the large primary air filter. It went right in. With the secondary installed the outside cover would not seat. Any ideas??? Thank you Tom

The air filters have a close tolerance fit that makes it sometimes tricky to get them seated all the way in. Only a guess here but that is probably the reason why the plastic cover won't snap lock.

Did you compare the new filters with the old ones?
I only ask as sometimes we can all overlook the obvious. Done it many times myself.

I believe there are two different filter arrangements. One uses a secondary filter and one doesn't. I would check the John Deere online parts catalogue or go to your local JD parts dealer. I think the large main filter is a slightly different length for each of the systems. If you use the wrong one, it may be possible to install a filter which will not seal and would allow unfiltered air into your engine. That would be a very bad thing!
