Can't help out about plastic or engine.

But I am sure that they can accommodate about any grapple.

I have not heard of any problems with the engine. Mine has been great. Lots of plastic, but so far even I have not managed to break any of it. A grapple should not be a problem.

I did have another slightly used 5455 in on a 2 week trial early in the summer. It had fuel injection pump/injector problems. Those where cleared up after I refused the tractor and got a new one. It apparently had a faulty pump from the factory and an inept mechanic made it worse when he "fixed" it. The posts on that mess are in the MF section. That is actually the only one of the 5400 series that I have heard of that had serious problems.

Challenger is a separate brand. They're sold by Caterpillar. The Challenger line is produced by AGCO for Cat. AGCO is the parent company of Massey Ferguson. The Challenger line is essentially the same as MF, with one subtle exception. The Challenger has the luxury of the Caterpillar warranty service. You pay for it, but Cat service is second to none. Many industrial users prefer Challengers over MF due mainly to Cat's field service being aailable.
