'84 B7100 HST clutch pedal & HST

I just got a 1984 B7100 HST. It has a left foot pedal for clutch. What is the purpose of this pedal ? HST is just push pedal fwd & Rev.

Also, HST is a bit noisy. Not a grind or metal on metal noise, more like a buzzing sound. Maybe just the sounds of hydraulics or a hydraulic pump when I push on pedal?? Is that a normal sound?

There is a gear connection to the HST with a neutral and high low range position I believe.

On many of the older tractors the petal is just a part of gear drives past. They were an advantage to the starter in colder climates as they disengaged the transmission and enhanced cold weather starting. Kubota's have been known for starting when other diesels didn't!

yes, there is high and low range. so I'd push the clutch in to change the range? I have bee pushing it in for cold start, but it also seems to start without pushing clutch in. So far, I've only putted around in low.

I just spoke with previous owner. He is not a tractor person or farmer; more of a hobbyist and this was the first tractor he ever owned. He said he only used clutch when he wanted to engage rear PTO. He had to let it out slowly to prevent engine from stalling. Does that make sense?

Yes.

If the motor is running and the range selector is not in neutral the clutch must be disengaged to put the PTO in gear.
