JD 790
Hello everyone!
I have had my 790 since new in 2005.
'tis (once again) the season for the front mount snow blower.
Seems every time I install or remove this 59" blower, I end up huffing exhaust. I am tired of this. I want to put the up and out exhaust found on the older 790s ... Where should I start?

You might be able to tell if the parts from the earlier 790 would work by looking at the pictures on JDparts.com

Where is your exhaust now? It should be a vertical stack...isn't it?

If you have an underhood exhaust, you can go to the older vertical exhaust.

The exhaust is now in front of the front left tire.
I'll check the JD parts sight...
I suppose I could do like all the diesel hot rod trucks around and scab on some 5" Crome stack... Turn some heads..

There should be a kit to install the vertical exhaust (which my old 790 had). You may be able to find that on JD Parts, but you may have to contact your dealer's sales dept.

JD parts was frustrating. Maybe it was my phone, but all the drawings were cropped off down the middle???
I do need to get the engine code, that much was apparent. I'll wait until after the sun comes up.

You'll want the tractor's serial number too...that's on a plate just above the PTO shaft.
As I'd written, you may have to contact a sales person. Some of these kits aren't considered "parts", so don't be discouraged if you can't find what you need on JD Parts.

BTW....

Welcome to TBN!!!

jsb408 Here is the best thread on changing a 790 / 3005 to vertical exhaust. TBN member mech did a nice job on his through the hood installation with a factory JD kit.

The 790's vertical exhaust comes out a semi-circular hole in the side panel, so no problems with the hood. IIRC, the kit has a paper template to use for trimming the side panel.
I'd reckon the hardest part of the job will be removing the old bolts holding the underhood exhaust in place.

For jsb408: Since my 790 (2003 model) had the vertical exhaust...the only (potential) disadvantage of the vertical exhaust is if you operate around low hanging branches. Those branches can hit the stack and swing back at the operator. I've had a face full of leaves occasionally. So, my first chore of the mowing season was to trim those low hangers...
If you do this conversion, I strongly suggest you stick with the Deere kit.

Ditto the branches can be painful!:( I had one come back and hit me in the mouth  ) Split my lip, 3 stitches. I saw it coming, but zigged when I should have zagged

The old vertical kit went through the side but the new kit goes through the hood. This is a pic from the other thread, sure looks like the exhaust goes through the hood to me...

Yeah, it does go through the hood...
I don't like this type of exhaust...if you want to open the hood, you have to remove the stack...I believe that's the same for the vertical stack kits for the 4200, 4300, 4400, 4210, 4310, and 4410 as well as the newer 3x20 series tractors.
I have a 4400 now, with the underhood exhaust. Although I'd rather have that vertical stack, I don't want the hassles of having to remove it anytime I want to open the hood.
Of course, diesel fumes don't bother me as long as it's not an enclosed space.

Up and out kit, Sure looks like the way to go. Any idea where I scare up the kit PN?
Through the hood looks like a hassle... What if it is hot? Where do you put the darn thing? Does it ice up?
