782 Won't start???

My wife mowed for an hour Saturday. Shut mower off for 15 minutes, got back on and wouldn't start. Cranked for 5mins finally started then died?? Any ideas, please help. Note: never any problems starting before till now. Thanks By the way love this site.

You need three things to run - fuel, compression and ignition (at the correct time). I would start with the fuel. Remove the hose from the carb and see if gas is flowing freely. If not, try loosening the tank cap. Sometimes the vent plugs. If you have plenty of fuel remove a spark plug wire and hold it 1/4 inch from the block and see if there is a spark while cranking. Ignition coils sometimes fail when hot.
