7810 Motopal pump.

Hi New member here from Wales UK. My 2001 7810 requires a new fuel stop selonoid. I have the non common rail engine with the Motopal fuel pump. Would appreciate how to remove the Motorpal pump enough to clear enough room to fit the new fuel stop selonoid. Looks straight forward to unbolt but unsure and concerened not to upset any timming. Thanks inadvance for anybody who can help. Regards John

If the rubber boot and plunger in your existing solenoid are good, you can remove the solenoid and leave the plunger/link assembly attached to the pump. That eliminates the need to remove the pump to install. Has worked for me a few times when customer was trying to save some labor costs. I hate that design that requires pump removal to install solenoid. If complete solenoid needs replaced, I would completely remove the pump so mounting oring can be replaced to prevent leakage. Flywheel needs to be locked at #1 TDC and timing mark for pump is viewed through pipe plug hole in block at pump mounting area. DIsconnect fuel lines and linkage. Unbolt drive gear through access plate on timing cover. Then remove pump.
