The chain snapped on the swingarm . I got a replacement from my dealer.
Here's the problem the hydraulic cylinder is all the way retracted under the housing, I need to extend the cylinder to work on it. I bled off the pressureand tried to pull it out with a come-along-no go.

Before I do something stupid and costly I thought I'd ask ---
What's the best way to pull it out?
Do I need to loosen the hose to allow fluid to leak out as I pull with come-along?
Is there a simpler way?

These must be single acting cylinders, or you could extend hydraulically. Just loosen the hose and pull - it'll self-bleed when you start to use it again. If there's no mechanical interference, you may be able to extend the cylinder by hand.

Simpler way? Yes, just start the tractor and operate the swing valve.

The older hoes with roller chain I have seen (Woods, Kubota, etc) all used
a single double-ended double acting cylinder. Is that how yours is set up?
I never owned one with roller chain, but I hear about their problems.

If you have TWO single-acting cyls, JIMMY is correct.

THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS.
I DO have TWO single-acting cyls.
I just cracked open the hose and pulled the piston out with a come-along.
Took 5 minutes to fix.
Thanks for the replies!

If you had held the valve OPEN the first time you tried to pull it out it would have come...but loosening the hose works to;)

Glad you got it worked out, Mike.

That is a rare (and obsolete) method of swing control. Pls post more
photos when you get a chance. (For those of us who are interested in all
things hoe-related.)

Here are some pics of the backhoe and the chain swing-arms.
Tested it out by grubbing out some small 3 inch oak trees.
Everything is back to normal- except my wallet $150.00 for 3 link chain.
