1988 John Deere 755
Hey all,

Im new here and I am a new owner of a 1988 John Deere 755 4wd with a FEL and 48" tiller.

I have ordered a owners manual and service manual from JD but I need some quick information on some maintenance items such as filters and fluids to change, if you guys have WIX product numbers that would be great. Also since I have no idea on the past history what should I check out to ensure all is working properly.

Also what is the correct starting procedure? The previous owner just told me to let the glowplugs warm up (light to shut off) put the throttle to halfway and crank till she fires. Is this correct is there a choke for cold starting?

thanks

:welcome: to the forum

That is the correct procedure. With a diesel, there is no "choke" to pull, as there is no carburetor. One of the beauties of a diesel. :)

Welcome to TBN!!

Go with BeenThere's starting instructions...never use ether!!
Since I think you're in Canada (Manitoba), you might want to consider installing a block heater too.

thanks. Yes for winter use i will be installing a block heater. How many times should i have to crank before she fires up?

Also do you guys have a list of grease nipples to hit and i will do an engine oil/filter change, fuel filter, both air filters. Anything else i should do? it has over 2000 hours on it.

Thanks

The grease zerks will be every location that moves (very likely). And when the service manual and operators manual arrives, you will get that information specific to the 755.

Times to crank before start? Once for about 3 seconds max if operating well. Mine fires off after 2-3 revolutions.

If you change all the fluids and filters, including the radiator coolant, you should be good to go. Then just follow the manual. There will be test procedures in the service manual to troubleshoot if something comes up. As well, TBN will be here to help. :D

And fill out your bio for additional info we may use to help you out. ;)

thanks.

Well mine does not start after 2-3 revs im cranking it over for at least 15 seconds max at least 3 or 4 times....

The battery is new, glow plugs are new and it turns over fairly fast.

Maybe the 2000 hours are showing. Others may have some helpful suggestions.

well im not going to think i fixed the problem but, I put a slow charge on the battery, put new battery terminals on it cleaned the grounds, and within 10-15 cranks she fired. **** of alot better than before.

I would still like ensure the machine is going to be reliable (start fast) so what is the next step? The glow plug light activates for maybe 5-8 seconds shuts off then I crank. Is this long enough? it is about 15 degrees C (59 F) out right now.

I have a 955 but don't have an owner's manual. I haven't been advancing the throttle to start it... I just crank it over and it fires right up.
