755 john deere

I have a 1996 John Deere with a Yamar Diesel engine. The engine just stopped and will not start. I bled the fuel lines and I took the governor apart to check the spring. The engine smokes will I spin the motor. Everything is good. I still can not find the problem . Can any one help. Thank you for your time and troubles .

My 955 quit running when the short rubber connector(part #20 on catalog 2054, section 30, page 43) in the fuel tank had rotted and broken...it was a bit tricky to catch since the tractor would run with a full tank but not with a low one. Maybe it's different on a 755 but check your fuel tank suction line. If you go as far as I did and remove the tank entirely, clean out the fuel tank while you're at it...you won't believe the ka-ka in the bottom sump of the fuel tank.
It also occurred to me that you could try and see if that is the problem by trying to run the tractor off a temporary fuel supply before tearing apart your fuel tank.
If it isn't that, then your fuel injection pump could be faulty but I don't have one on a 955.

What is the color of the smoke? White = unfired diesel. Check for injector pressure by loosening each one and looking for some fuel overspray. Same symptoms as that of a bad fuel pump. Maybe even bad/old fuel.

That's where I would start as well, checking for fuel starvation? Loosen one of the bleeder fittings to see if you have fuel pressure with the key turned on.

Been there and done that. I also replaced all fuel lines and injectors. I have a Diesel Mechanic coming to check the timing and injector pump. Thanks for the come back my friend.

Did the mechanic fix it yet? Just curious.

Mechanic said it is sucking in air, but we have not found it yet. All Fuel Lines Injectors, and Filters have been changed. Blows a grey smoke, but will not run. WE are looking at the injector pump now.

Okay I am confused here: did you look at the fuel line pick up connector in the fuel tank from my previous post? You say "all fuel lines" ...I would guess that is included but I just wanted to make sure. I also would try an alternative fuel supply to the fuel pump to see if the tank, etc is the problem.

With new lines and filters, struggling with the thought its "sucking in air"? If it were allowing this upstream from the electric fuel pump, fuel would be spraying all over when the pump was running. If it were doing it downstream from the pump, your fuel flow/pressure would be way low/non existent when you crack a bleeder and let it run for a few seconds?

Just a thought, but if the engine was running OK prior to it's shut down, logic would say it's more likely something has broken or something electrical has failed. If the problem were wear someplace, you would have noticed a gradual loss of power/performance?

Glow plugs are OK?
