This spring when I hooked my 7520 up to the disk mower and went to engage the PTO I could feel it grinding through the level like the clutch was not disengaging. Being crunch time and the fact that I have tractors for each piece of equipment I just swapped it to the wagons and figured I would deal with it at the end of the season.

It seems to me that quite possibly one of the clutch plates may be sticking to the pressure plates since the tractor sat for about 8 months prior to being fired up.

I really want to avoid splitting the tractor if I can and want to know if I may be overlooking anything simple.

Did you disengage the clutch, then move the PTO "on-off" lever forward into the slot to engage the PTO shaft, then move the clutch lever rearward to engage the clutch? If not, you can tear it up. Did the clutch warning horn blow while trying this?

Yup, disengaged the clutch but when going to move the on-off lever that is when you can feel it rumbling in your hand, just like the clutch is still engaged. I have 3 "20" series tractors and both of the 6520's are bullet proof beasts. It's just that this one sat for a while and sometimes you know how gremlins find there way.

Disable the switch that prevents you starting the tractor when the PTO is engaged. With engine off engage the PTO gear and start the engine with the PTO clutch disengaged. This should break it free. If not, use it with clutch engaged and operate the clutch occasionaly. Should un stick before long.

That's what I was going to do but the forecast changed and I was under the weather gun to get 3000 bales of straw made for an erosion control contractor.

Might have to borrow the neighbors logging winch and pull a few trees out of the woods to see if that will free it up.

When I bought my 6520, I thought the 7520 would give more problems. Guess I was right. Your right, they are beasts and mine is The Big RED Beast.:D You can't beat cubic inches.

Brandi, want to compare problems? I have had 3 with my 7520. Brake light switch sticks, PTO safety switch went bad and a nut on the steering control box was loose and leaked oil. Tightened the nut up, no more leak, replaced the PTO switch & live with the sticking brake light switch. :(

Why would you think that the 7520 would have more problems, because of the turbo? :confused2:

I disabled my pto switch early on. If that clutch switch sticks Im ready.:D ... Had a severe momentary worry when I lost 4wd Fri while I was stirring the manure pile. I got stuck in the pile so I had to wait quite a while before I could recover it with little tractors and determine that it was external. The 4wdriveshaft had twisted off. Its the power!:D

:shocked: Of course you know that that happened because you have your tires loaded and it is just to much traction for that little ol shaft to handle. At least it should be an easy fix. ;)

It was a fatigue failure. You can see where a crack started and progressed thru about 30% of the shaft area before it twisted off the remainder. Im going to give the new shaft some preparation before putting it on to eliminate stress risers that give a place to start cracks. I think the shaft is strong enuf ... just not quite finished in the fabrication process.
