Just bought a new 7254 with a fel & mmm. All was fine until about 10hours started poping out of gear under load. Dealer reajusted the detent but it is still doing it.
Also it is very hard starting & the hyro has a very loud wine.
Just woundering if any body else has these problems, and what they did to fix them.

thanks Bill

Check the loader control valve plumbing. Can't help you with the gear problem. Check the lube level in the front wheel drive, mine arrived with 0. Watch the motor mount bolts for tightness. I have owned better tractors. bcs

I finely got the people from cub cadet to look at my tractor. They agreed that there is a problem and put in a heaver spring in the detent and all so added metal plates on top of the plastic that shows what gear it is in, looks preaty cheasy. They said that they are going to change the design of this part and send me a new one we will see!!!!
There was also a problem with the motor not running smoothly. It was the coils loosened up. Reajusted them and tighten them runs great now.

I was curious as to why you opted for the gas engine over the diesel?

I purchased the gas because it was 1300.00 dollars cheaper, and I did not want two differant fuels around the shed.

After talks between my dealer an mtd they had decided to give my a new tractor or I could upgrade to the 7264. Which i did for the cost of $800.00.
The only reason that I did was because I heard of other tractors with 25hp kawi also had the same problems I was having, and i wanted the power of the diesel.
What a differance between the two tractors it is like night and day. I can cut the grass at 3/4 throttle. It also seems quiter than the 7254.
I would like to thank mtd for standing behind there product. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just curious how you are enjoying the 7264. I am looking into purchasing one. What type of mower are you using and how is the quality of cut.

So far so good. Not a single problem. As for the mower it is the cub cadet 60" mmm and it dose a great job. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I had a 7254 back 3 years ago, paid too much, at the time I thought that all the creature comforts would be great! BUT at 25 hours I knew I had bought the wrong tractor. At 50 hrs the digital dash panel blew, warranteed, no prob, $800. Had continuous problems with the switches for the pto, again warranteed. Pto shaft was missing a spacer, hydrolic leaks out, warranteed no prob. The on demand 4wd is a joke, as soon as you need it, it comes on so strong you dig in. Winter starting forget it, need to get hydrolic oil heater to get it going, keep in mind this is a gas engine. Hydrostatic wine, too loud, too light wt to do real work. Bolts all over needed to be retourqed. Anyway I learned alot and sold it at 350 hrs, if someone has a nice yard to mow, and move some mulch, crushed rock, etc this small tractor will perform, just didnt meet my requirements. I now have an 870jd which is alot more tractor for less money and has the same hours.
