I am installing a complete new aftermarket manual steering unit on my tractor.

My shop manual says SAE 90 Ford numbers ESW-M2C 28-BA or ESEN-M2C94A. So what is recommended as best slickest oil for easiest steering possible?

A synthetic gear oil ?

What is recommended for first fill and use. I was thinking of filling the unit and leave the drag links disconnected ( or jack up front end) and turn back and forth a bunch of times to lube everything up with no load.

Then should I recheck level or turn in one side to get max fluid level ? Any other thing to do?

I don't think synthetic makes sense here. This oil won't get very hot, and won't see any interchange with air.

Only if you use it in very cold conditions would I put synthetic in it, to keep it from getting too thick and syrupy in the extreme cold.
