I have a 4720. I have about 30 acres that needs to be mowed. It's partially covered with sagebrush, much of it with a diameter between 2" and 4". It seems to me that the ideal implement would be something similar to the JD 709 Rotary Cutter. It has a min. hp requirement of 45 and the 4720 makes 56 hp at the PTO.

Does anyone know if the Category I hitch on the 4720 is compatible with the 709? If not, what's the best modification appropriate to make it work? Is there a different cutter/mower that is more appropriate?

How about the 609? It's Cat I. You'd lose a bit with each trip across the field... If the sagebrush is kinda spread out - won't likely notice, anyway!

I agree with AKfish, the 609 would be a better choice. Much better size for a 4x20 tractor and I suspect you can cover the same amount of ground with the 609 because you can mow slightly faster and manuever more easily.

In open spaces I prefer a heavy duty pull type mower, lot less strain on the tractor hitch and easier to handle on rolling hills.

Good thinking on the 609. It will probably fit on my trailer better too. :)
