7 acres tilled - Whew!

Well happy to say that we finally had a few nice days and I got my field preped and ready to plant. The guys on here that said that tilling more than 4 -5 acres would be a long haul were not kidding! My Befco T50-266 really did a great job. I think it took around 5 + hours of tilling to do the seven acres. The MX5000 went through about 10 galons of fuel to do it. The only problem I had was the 3pt pins worked loose a couple of times and I had a couple of loose tines after about an hour of use. I went through all of the tines and torqued them down and had no more problems with them. The 3pt pins need to have some lock tight applied. i am amazed at how well the tiller deals with rocks. If they are real big and just under the surface it will bounce up over them. Anything less than a bowling ball just gets mixed into the dirt.

Having the FEL on while doing this is the only way to go. I had picked the big rocks before I started but still ended up filling the bucket to the brim with rocks 3 times.

I till about 2 acres a year but I also use the tiller to cultivate between the rows when I'm growing veggies. 7 acres in one shot is impressive.

I tilled 8.5 acres numerous times last year prior to planting native grasses (planted the native grass 1 month ago). As much as I enjoy seat time, it really did get tedious. Glad I'm done with it. The tilling was very effective at eliminating the fescue. I didn't want to use Roundup so tilling was my best option (after plowing first, then discing)
