hi there i have a 4 1/2 in bore cylinder that im putting on my wood splitter and its got 7/8 ports but i have 3/4 line from the valve, can i adapt my 3/4 line to 7/8 to make this work and will it hurt the capability of the system to do so?the cylinder is a prince 3000 psi 4 1/2 inch bore with a 2 inch rod and 30 inch stroke.any input would be great, thanks

You'll have to be a little more specific on the port type. I'm guessing you've got NPT (pipe threads) with a 1/2" NPT port on the cylinder and a 3/8" NPT male hose end??? Those would measure close to 7/8" and 3/4" if that's how you determined the size. If that's the case, you can simply install a bushing into the cylinder port to reduce it to 3/8" NPT.

You left out the most important number....pump flow....
wont hurt anything, unless your pump flow is so high that 3/4" is restricting (over 20ft/sec in fluid velocity) and creating heat.....but it would take at least 22gpm from pump (with a 2" rod that will make 27.5gpm return flow when retract)....

ok my cylinder is prince #4hl55 it has 7/8 14 ports and my pump is 2 stage 16 gpm.basicly with what i have i can run 1/2 in or 3/4 in line but the cyl has 7/8 ports and im not sure if they make adapters from7/8 to 1/2 but i know they make 7/8 to 3/4 so i thought of going with 3/4 lines.just tryin to figure out the best way to do this.any help please would be appreciated

ok since it can be adapted, can it be adapted to 1/2?or do i have to use 3/4 line?not only am i trying to figure out how to adapt but im trying to figure out which line size to use.do you think that 3/4 would be better than 1/2 and why?would there be any performance problems with 1/2?

Look through the chart for the size you want. You may have to use two fittings to down size.

Your 3/4" hose is absolutely adequate for your splitter. What you have is a -10 O-Ring Boss port on the cylinder. I'm not sure what is on the end of your hose. Is there an O-Ring on there or did you have thread sealant before? Lets identify your hose end and we can tell you which adapter you need.
