68 ford 3000 tractor

hello everyone!!

I was needing to replace the pto shaft seal on my ford 3000,with a 4 speed transmission, and got in a big hurry and forgot to engage the pto shifter before i pulled the shaft out. Got the shaft out and engaged the pto shifter and heard something fall inside the tractor!! Took the pto shifter off and the inspection cover and cant find anything at all laying in the bottom of the tractor.
I was assuming looking for a shifting collar or something in that nature but no luck !! What am i missing/ Please help!!

There's a drive collar in there. Take a breath, calm down, and find it.

Have u got a pic and where do I need to be looking ?

It's going to be laying in the bottom of the case. Probably towards the front. I don't have a picture. If the PTO worked before you pulled the shaft, and the coupler isn't on the ground Under the tractor, it's inside the rear end housing.

what shape does it look like? the reason why i ask is because i have had my hands all in the bottom of the case where the pto shifter is located and i cant find anything laying loose and have stuck a stick magnet in as well and cant drag anything out as well.
