Hey everyone,

First off I'll start by saying I'm not a mechanic by an means, but I despise bringing my broken items to someone else to fix....maybe pride is my problem...or lack of cash. Any ways I bought this ford 4000 off the side of the road for scrap metal price. The engine was locked up. I had the head rebuilt by a certified shop, rebuilt the engine myself. I bled the fuel system just like the shop manual prescribed, but no fuel will come out of the injection line ports. Yesterday I took the pump off and apart to see if the stop came off of the lever and if the metering valve was possibly stuck.. It was neither, so I replaced what seals I could without going too deep into it. I put it all back together, back on the tractor and bled the system again. Same freaking results. I have fuel pressure at the bleeding screw on the side of the injection pump, but no fuel to the injection line connections. This is a CAV pump with no hand pump on the side. It has dual filters and two lines leaving the second filter. One line goes to the side of the injection pump and the other connects to the very end of the pump next to where the injection lines connect. I've reached the point where I'm out of ideas and am hoping that someone out here has already solved this issue. I would've already bought a new pump, but I'm trying to get this thing running first to make sure the rest of the tractor works ie... hydraulics and transmission. Any help will be appreciated and maybe I'll be able to help you in the future. Thank You in advance!!

Try talking to Joel Shenk at Connestoga Diesel, they repair all pumps, injectors, etc.

Remove cover where the pumpdrivegear is and check if gear is there and if pumpshaft is turning when turning the engine ? Then chech if pumpshaft is turing at the fuel inlet.......mybe shaft is seezed and broken off ?

A friend of mine had just that happen. Water got in the fuel and it froze to ice and stopped the pump up (seized plungers ?). Anyway, when he tried to start the engine the fuel pump drive shaft snapped. Ended up costing him around $300 including tax, to replace the drive shaft.
Since the Op is in MS, I very much doubt that would happen - but it can given the right circumstances.

I've never messed with a cav pump. But you might have better luck posting in the Ford forum. It's under related equipment- vintage tractors- Ford.
