The tractor started to just make a click when I went to start it so I would just keep trying then it would finally engage. This weekend it clicked once then nothing the battery has a full charge. shuttle in neutral, shifter in neutral, high low range lever in neutral nothing. I have not used the PTO yet, but I did confirm that was in neutral. I had to move the tractor so I jumped across the starter solenoid and it started right up. Any ideas as to what I need to check? I'm under warranty but my closest dealer wants $400.00 to pick it up and another $400.00 to deliver.

First step you need a volt meter. I like to work backwards. Start at the starter. Check see if you have voltage on small wire on starter solenoid with key in start. If not check the voltage at start relay. If you don't have 12v on two wires with key in start position check the safety switches. Check the ground terminal on relay also.( Poor Ground is the number one overlooked electrical problem) There is a switch on pto lever and also on the high/neutral/low lever. Check voltages going across switches with key in start position.

I did remove and clean both battery cables and posts.

My operators manual says there is a safety switch on the PTO lever and the shift lever. I tried to find one on the high low lever and could not find any thing. The tractor is 270 miles away when I get back up in two weeks I will look at the shift lever and also try to locate the starter solenoid.

High low lever will also have a switch..I'll look on my 4530 and see if I cant point you in the right direction. They should be similar if not the same ..

Rmoni,

Have the battery checked for amps. Had a one on my 5530 same click, etc. had battery checked out, showed full charge, then had the amp checked. That test failed no amperage to crank. New battery took care of that problem. This was 2014 July. No problem since. Batteries are not what they used to be since lead is not used anymore as I am told.
