I have a 650g starts fine with no choke. touch choke or idle lever it dies.new points, condenser, rotor, plugs, coil installed. cap and wires switched from running 550g. carb disassembled cleaned with 2&2. even switched carb off running 550g. same result. I'm baffeled

Few questions to help narrow down the possibilites: Did the S650G run before you made all these changes? Did you remove or rotate the distributor? Check/replace the fuel filter?
It shouldn't make a difference at low rpm, but is the vacuum advance connected and operating? What RPM does it idle at when you start it? Will it start if you choke it? Have you set the points gap? Without more info, it sounds like either the timing is way off or it's starved for fuel. When I replaced my points, the old points were so worn that the old timing was way off. (dwell on the old points wouldn't even register on the meter!) I had to tweak the timing by ear to get it close enough to get the rpm stable enough to set the timing with a light. I've also found that my fuel pump isn't exactly self priming, so if I run it out gas or drain the line, I have to fill the filter and line to get it to run. It's fine after that. Hope this helps.

before changes tractor would speed up a little with choke.timing set notch to pointer.vac advance connected and working by vac pump test.at idle vac is low but same as running 550g at idle.it will not start with choke applied.new points set @ 18 thousanths.fuel pump pushes gas out of hose when disconnected. fuel filter clean.also drained tank and put new gas in. thanks for your help

Does your pulley only have a singe notch? Mine has 2 and it doesn't run well set straight up on either one. Also what rpm is it running at when you start it? I assume this is the rpm you have it timed at.
Alright, I want to make sure I have the throttle/choke info straight: Tractor starts and runs with choke open and throttle set at slowest setting. Won't start or dies if it's choked or if the throttle is increased. Were your old plugs fouled heavily with carbon or wet? Are the new plugs wet?

Finnally had time to work on tractor again. Found weak coil spark. new distributor cap from napa wasn't wide enough at base to go over metal point cover. ground down edges of point cover and solved problem. thanks for your help
