641 Workmaster battery problem?

My 1958 641 Workmaster was running fine the other day but it started kinda slow like the battery was weak. I ran it for a while then turned it off and then went to crank it up a little while later and it was turning over very slow like it never got a charge and it wouldn't start. I jumped it off with my truck (it's a 12 volt) and it ran for about 2 minutes and died. I let it cool down for a while then jumped it off again and was able to get it to the barn. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure how to trouble shoot it.

sounds like it is not charging which if it's still the 6 volt could mean Generator.

From the pic I see it's been converted to 12 volt charging. Does it have a 12 volt battery? Have you checked battery connections for tightness? Loose connection will not charge & causes slow start. Have you checked battery water level? Low water kills a battery & overcharging will cause low water. Can't see if it's gas or diesel ( my 841 was diesel) but if gas, dead battery & bad charging connections will ultimately kill the ignition as well.
Your starter may need overhaul or may just need air blown around the brushes, stuck brushes will slow & eventually stop a starter. May need a voltage regulator although it's usually bypassed when converted to single wire alternator. Check connections at amp meter also. MikeD74T

Thank you for the responses. I really do appreciate you taking the time to respond. The ammeter is broke or maybe it's the connection. It is a 12 volt, gas tractor. I'm sorry I haven't checked all the connections and the water. That is very sound advice that I will do first thing this weekend.

Yep.. dead battery makes it awefull hard for a battery ignition system to run.

once started alt should carry ignition.. so alt sounds bad.. take her in for a free checkup.. most auto stores do that.
