bobcat 641
I was using my 641 bobcat to move snow and all of a sudden I had no drive forward or reverse on the right side. Left side works great. but cannot steer with only left side dive working.

I lined it up and used a truck with a winch to drag up on trailer.

I have now taken the top panel off of the chain drive. put up on blocks and looked at oil level in chain drive box. It is only about 4 inches deep in oil, and none came out when I pulled the drain plug on the front of the oil tank for those chains. Is it too low? how do you know?

It is up on blocks with tires off the ground.

Is it a chain problem or a hydraulic pump issue?

I am not a knowledgable mechanic. any information would be great.

Thank you

If memory serves me,your unit has a mechanical brake. Release the brake. Can you spin the right side wheels by hand? If so you possibly have a broken motor carrier shaft or bad drive motor. RH drive pump may have failed.:confused3:

Start with the simple stuff....how much slack is in the chain? is the chain still connected?

Youtube is another resource

Go to about 2:35 on the video. Might give you a better idea of what to look for, but I'm not sure how different yours might be.

Bobcat 61 Clutch inspection and information - YouTube

Thank you very much for your reply. My bobcat looks nothing like the one in the video. my chains are inside an oil bath under the seat in the middle of the bobcat. I got one of the front chains loose using a master link but cannot locate a master link on the rear chain on right side. Wondering if I have to break the chain (original equipment) and use a master link to put the chain back in???? Or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether and just need to look at the right side hydraulic pump?

Thank you very much

If it has a double sprocket on the drive motor that goes to each wheel, chances are that there is something wrong with the motor or (more unlikely,) that half ov the Vickers pump. I have pics of the 632 and 743 drive system, but not a 641 so I couldn't say with certainty how it's laid out.
My 700 has a reduction sprocket, so losing that chain would disable both wheels.

You have the drive motors outside the chaincase (between the tires)? The setup is very similar, if you can picture it inside out. I believe the oil fill level plug is in front behind the bucket, oil level would be to the bottom of the hole.
Still digging through my stuff, thought there was a service manual here somewhere for the 641-643. Of course s/n compatibility can be a bear with bobcat.

The linkage didn't happen to come apart, did it? I like to eliminate the cheap stuff before the really expensive parts. A pressure guage on the wheel motor would be helpful too.

I would not start disassembling the chain case till you confirm the issue! You may be a mile away from the problem. Did you try to turn the RH wheel with the brake released??? There are a few simple tests that can be done to pinpoint the issue. FYI the chain case lube has nothing to do with the drive. Its just a simple splash system for the chains.

Did you check the steering linkage ?
