63' Ford 2000 diesel engine rebuild

I just picked up a 63' Ford 2000 diesel. The engine has virtually no compression and wont run at all, even with spraying ether in the intake. I got the tractor for $550 and it is complete and in fair condition for it's age. I'm assuming the rings are gone and will need sleeves and pistons with new rings. My son thinks it might be valves, but I dont think it is, or maybe the timing jumped a tooth or two and the cam is out. Im going to put a rebuild kit in it if necessary. Question is can I do this rebuild with the engine still in the tractor or will it require removal??? Thanks for any help you can give. Ron

if your not do main bearings you should be good to go.

virtually impossible to jump teeth on timing. there is no chain.

144ci diesels are getting spendy to rebuild as parts are hard to find.

it woun't have liners unless it has been rebuilt before.. meaning you will need to have it fitted for liners.

might be cheaper to put a running engine in and go.

got a diesel comp tester?

got the valve cover off?

Yeah, found out no chain when I started looking at it closer. thanks... We did do comp test and cylinders were between 55 and 65lbs, so this thing is worn out. Im pulling head off this weekend to take a look at it. Valves are going up and down, so none seem to be stuck.

55? that's less than half what a gasser needs.

it must have baked the rings.. or blown the land off the pistons.. or the valves are burnt like crazy to be that low comp...
