60W Incandescent bulbs

I was picking up a few things at Walmart this evening and noticed they had Sylvania A19 traditional 60W incandescent bulbs on clearance. A 4 pack was $1.00. I haven't seen much around in these bulbs since the govt. phaseout began last January, especially 60W, which used to be the most common. I've been switching over to LEDs, but still use the incandescent bulbs in certain applications. I grabbed a bunch just to have put away.

A week or so ago I went to Wal-Mart and one thing on the list was a "standard" three way bulb. I think they are 75-100-150 watt bulbs. Much to my surprise the cost had more than doubled since the last time I recall buying one (within the past year). It was more than $8 for one bulb. Isn't that crazy? Ended up buying just a 150w and skipping the three way options.

We have 3 PAIRS of 3-way lamps; one pair in the living room and one pair in each bedroom. And anytime one is turned on, we go directly to the brightest setting. 3-way is a total waste as far as we're concerned. And if you think $8 is high for an incandescent, look at what the 3-way LED bulbs cost.:laughing:

Three way was handy when the twins were still getting up for a night time feeding. Now, as you do, we go straight to high beam.

Check out the prices for standard 43W consumption (60W equivalent) light bulbs, as opposed to a true incandescent they're halogen filled, much more expensive.

You can still get 60, 75,100,200 and 300 watt standard lamps, but they must be labeled rough duty.

Check in the local Dollarama stores - they seem to have lots of incandescent light bulbs - at least up here in Canada.

Be wary of the discount bulbs, though. I bought some "Sunbeam" 60w incandescents at Big Lots several weeks ago and three have already burned out. :thumbdown: Dollartree sells them as well.

I learned a little secret years ago. If you can locate incadescent lamps that are rated 130 volts instead of normal 120 volts, they will last a loooong time.

My r30 65 watt incadescent floods used to burn out every 6-12 months under average loads, after switching to the 130 volt series.....they have lasted over 3 years and still going.

These lamps are supplied thru my wholesale house, but im sure retail places may also stock them.

They actually have 130 volts stamped on box and lamp.

The standard a19 60 watt clears i installed in exterior lights have been used unchanged for at least 5 years. Their on timer and run sundown to 11pm.
