Does anybody know if the 60" deck that was used on 425-455's work on an X495. I've got the 62c and do not like it as well as the 60". It doesn't discharge heavy grass near as well. Thanks for any replies.

I hear ya!
I have the 54C deck on my X485, and don't like it for cutting as well as the 54" decks on my previous 425 & 445. Had the same thought, if the 54 would fit on the X485.

I'm in a position to try that, as I now have picked up a 425 and a 455, both with 54" decks. :) Not sure when I can try that, but would think that it would be possible (may just require some adjustment to the height settings and the front bail length.

Have been dissapointed in the newer decks (apparently a cosmetic change, that resulted in poor grass flow from the deck).

Didn't realize the 62C's were also poor performers.

I'm real happy with my two tractors with the 54" decks. he 425 has the powerflo and MC519 cart on it for leaves and grass, and the 455 is for mowing. The X485 has the broom on it for cleaning up under the hickory and walnut trees, and to get them off the drive. Should sell one or two of the three, but can't make up my mind which. :D

The C series Edge decks are good homeowner decks. They are OK but not fantastic. I have had both the 54c and the 62c. I currently run a 62d on my 2320. It is more like a 7-iron in construction and a much better deck in my opinion. I also have a 950 ZTR with the 7 iron 60" deck. You want the 7-iron deck. It works great on an X series machine and is worth the money to upgrade. Personally, I do not know why JD does not just offer the 7-iron drive overs in various sizes on the X series and move the C series to the 500's and down. I know a lot of folks who would have bought either an X series or a 2305 mower a couple years ago had the 7 iron been available then.

Oh, to answer your question I do not think the older style 60" deck works on the X series.

Why do you think that?
If anything, seems the old style deck would be smaller as the X series are a bit longer frame.

Beenthere, I am not a John Deere mechanic and could be quite wrong, but I believe the mounting points are different. I suppose if one were handy he could rig a mounting system if the stock one were not compatible (I do not think it is), but the PTO, etc. would have be in good alignment and the deck itself, which may prove challenging. I could ask the service head at my JD dealership to confirm my suspicions and will do. Thanks.

That would be good. I'd like to hear what you find out.

I look at the 54 and the 54C decks side by each, and they look almost the same. The lift links under the 455 and the X485 look to be in the same position, and also does the PTO shaft and gear box. As well, the bail to hold the front of the mower deck looks very much the same size.
I know the lifts on the X485 have slots instead of holes for the J-hooks on the 455, but am thinking the slot will slide onto the J hook.

Just may have to give it a try tomorrow or so, and see what, if anything, doesn't fit. I'll take some pics of the measurements.
I'm curious and then we'll know for sure and I then may have a 54C deck for sale. :D

Have slid the 54" deck under the X485 and all looks well, but the frame is about an inch longer. Will adjust the nuts on the front draft arms to see if that is all that needs to be done. The draft arms of both the 54" and the 54C decks are identical in size (the 54 has some additional bends but the critical measurements/spacings are the same.

Only problem on the horizon, is if the 54" fits the X485, then I doubt the 54C will go under the 425 (as the deck is an inch longer). So I'd have to sell the 425 without a deck and sell the 54C deck separate. Decisions, decisions.

Hey thanks to all that have replied I really appreciate it. I will do more research myself and hopefully come up with an answer. Thanks!

The adjustment to the draft did not go out far enough (about 1/3" shy). The PTO shaft connected with no problem. To make it work, would just lengthen the draft linkage or add longer ears on the front edge of the deck (this would leave the deck in the same position with respect to the PTO shaft connect). Very workable, IMO.

I needed to find that out, and this was a good excuse to find out what did and didn't work. :) No decision needed to sell something. :D
