i am going to go look at a 59" blower that the guy says went on a 750/850/950. did those models have a front pto? he said there is a double pulley that connects to the blowers drive shaft. i presume that this means a belt was run from a front pto pulley to this drive pulley.

if this is true (runs off a front pto), is the blower housing the same? in other words, is the blower gear box the same as the ones run from a mid pto? the unit is pretty inexpensive, and i would want to adapt it to a mid pto...presuming they are made to run at the same rpm.

thanks.

searching jdparts, i can't find any blower drive that used pulleys/front pto. wonder if it is a homemade adapter to fit something else?

From the Deere site, doesn't look like the 950 is a tractor it will fit... but may have something built to accomodate.
I thought the 59" blowers were driven off the mid PTO.

Don't know if this will help. May be an indication what the 59 blower fits.

that's all the same info i can find....and on jdparts, i can only find mid pto setups. which is why i wonder if someone made the pulley adapter to run off something else. i would be using it as a mid pto, but wanted to make sure all the 59's came w/ the same gear box, so that if i can re-adapt it to mid pto, it will still be running the same speed!

he said that there is a short pto shaft from blower to where it mount to the tractor (i can find this on all models on jdparts). he said the other side is splined, which must accept the dual pulley. it appears that this accepts the longer pto shaft in the 'normal' setups.

the only problem is if jd uses some funky spline arrangement, where i would have to buy a shaft from jd instead of being able to fab one up.

defed,
Just a guess but I suspect any speed changes were outboard the gearcase, you will need to look at it and see for sure. I would think you will need to buy the proper driveline to connect to your mid pto and remove the offset driveline.

went to look at the blower today. it is actually a "359" blower...59", but run off of a front pto, which was an add on kit (electric pto) for whatever tractors. seems it is from the 80's.

not sure now that the gear box is the same, and meant to run from a mid pto. you can find the schematics on jdparts under 359. it looks like the front mounting bracket had splined stubs out the front and back...front for the blower and rear to run a mower deck?

besides not knowing if it runs on the same input rpm...i think it would work fine. the bracket measures out that it might bolt right on, then i'd just need a pto shaft from my mid stub to the bracket stub. i made him an offer, but still need to find out the required input rpm before i bought it.

You should have compared the gearbox to the 55/70 series while you were at deere's site, its listed right there.

Anyway, both use the AM39363 Gear housing. The 50 series uses a M84788 15 tooth input gear(8) which, as near as I can tell, turns a 19 tooth idler gear(3). That turns the same M84790 50 tooth output gear(9) as the 55 series.

The 55 series just uses a M86075 19 tooth input gear(6) to a M84790 50 tooth output gear(7).

This means a 359 blower for a 50 series will turn over slower and in the opposite direction. Having never been inside the gearbox for one of these, actual confirmation of turning the shaft is better than taking my interpretation of the parts book. As a side note my brother also just bought a 359 but hasn't got it home yet, could be a surprise for him:confused2:

If its a really great deal the M86075 shaft and gear (6) can be had for $150 -same bearing and seal.

The 322 garden tractors use the same gearbox with another size of gears, who said pulleys would be easier.

I'm patiently waiting to try out my 55 series blower with my 3720 (custom mounts)

thanks for the info. i tried to compare the drawings, but was having a bit of problem fitting enough stuff on the screen. then i had the brilliant idea to PRINT them. now i can see what's going on.

it looks like there are (at least) 3 different gear cases. the 59, 359/50 and 359/55 all list a different #. the 59 and 359/55, supercede to the same #, but not the 359/50.

i didn't (tho i SHOULD have) pay attention to what direction the the impeller turned when i rotated the pto. i guess knowing that will tell me which version of the 359 blower he has. tho, being the belt drive, i'm thinking it is the backwards one.

with 3 different gear case #'s....i guess that there is no guarantee that the parts will swap, but i see what you mean about swapping the input gears and removing the small spur gear.

The gear housings are all the same, its the complete gearbox that has a different part number because the gears inside are different.

Could this blower be intended for use on an F900 series front mount mower? For example my F935 has an optional attachment for a 59" 2000 rpm front snow blower and rotry broom. The rpm and the prop shaft are the same as the mid-pto on my 1070 tractor. Rotation would be different, though.
