582 won't start

help please. My 582 will not start. ran fine last week now it only cranks, no spark. after many trys it did start and ran good until I engaged the PTO. The engine died and now will not start again. any ideas?

What engine? If it is a courage engine; pull flywheel and replace key.

"no spark" indicates a safety switch or interlock iprolly involved. Here's a link to a manual for yer tractor.: http://www.ihregistry.com/manuals/op/482.pdf
Try spraying a little carb cleaner into the carb's throat and see if the engine will try to start. If so, you hve a fuel delivery prob, not "no spark". Post back with results details...
dqdave1 - that 582 is most likely an older IH machine painted red and came with a Briggs twin engine

It was awhile back but I think the only safety switch I had on my 582 was the clutch/brake pedal. But if the PTO switch was engaged it wouldn't start either.

I did replace the coil on the 582 but most coils will not suddenly fail...although that's is possible. The 582 coil would run for about 20 min then quit...wouldn't start again until it was cold.

...just say'en it was a 582 and an old 1949 'H' I traded in for my Kubota.

thanks for the feedback. My 582 has the Briggs 16hp twin. standard yellow and white colors. I am confident my problem is not fuel related.

You may want to check your PTO Clutch, Just in case.
