5525 work out with stumps

As I get more familiar with my machine I'm beginning to assign it harder tasks. So far just light task, but finally got to do some work out. Last week I attacked a year old stump. The 35" dia. alder was cut last year and I wanted it removed so I decided to work the Bradco 509. After 4 hrs I won and had the stump out. No doubt that if I was more experienced with a BH I could have done it sooner. I do have pictures and will post them as soon as I can get them down loaded from the camera. The final hole was about 5'wide and 4'deep.

I actually had 9 to remove from a depression that I hired a company to dump 20 loads of dirt to fill in with dirt moved from another area of my property. I dug one out with pick, shovel and chainsaw that took me two days. This guy showed up with a huge excavater and in 45 min. removed 6 of the stumps. Average size was 36" dia. That last on was not part of the deal so I had to deal with it and it was a double stump.

By the way, I'm going to need a post hole digger and not sure which brand and size to get for a 50-55 hp tractor. Been looking at the Leinbach L7300, the Howse PHDH50, most likely candidate and the Benuser (spl?), that is attractive ,but a bit pricey for what I want to do. I will eventually need to dig about 200 holes in dirt that is easy to dig to set rr ties as fence posts.
Cant find any reviews on PHD so if you have any extensive experience with them, I'd appreciate the input.

I have a Mahindra 5525 also. Haven't looked for a PHD yet, but the 5525 has 45 hp at the pto. The Danuser G20/80 looks promising (20-80 hp pto).

I checked the Leinbach website for the hp rating on the L7300 drive with no luck. Can't consider this one until I get that info.

Can't find info on that Howse PHDH50 unit either.

flusher, as soon as I pushed sent, I remembered the correct spelling, but you got what I was talking about. The Howse PHDH50 is rated up to 55 hp, so for the price of $500, not bad. I have seen a used Danuser F8 locally for sale for $900, but I'm reluctant to buy used tractor implements that are PTO driven as I dont know how it was used, but they are for sure top of the line units.

Beware. I have owed two pieces of Howse equipment. The dirt scoop bent and failed the first weekend and the sub soiler lasted about a day before it bent. I doubt if my 29 hp Kubota did them in quite as bad as the premium Chinese steel.

I'm leaning towards the L7300, but the problem is I can't find a dealer close to Seattle. That means extra bucks for shipping. Thanks for the replies. I also posted in the attachment section.

fyi, the ones we've sold for years are the 7200's.......haven't seen a single unhappy customer.

Ok, my local Mahindra carries Modern brand PH or I found a dealer in Tacoma who sells the L7300. Price is not that far appart. Who makes Modern?

Wow, that hole sounds small for a tree that size!
I have a Danuser hydraulic post hole digger I mount on my backhoe and have quick disconnects on the bucket curl lines. I can sit in the seat and use the bucket curl and dump controls to operate the post hole digger.
It sit me back around $1800 including a 9 and 12 inch auger.

I'm with you. Hydraulic PHD is the way to go even though more expensive than the pto-driven PHDs. Only in my case it'll be mounted on the side of the FEL bucket of my 5525 with the ML250 FEL. With this setup you can see what the PHD is doing, get downforce on the auger and, IMHO, work a lot safer.

I have seen the setup you mention. But backhoes dig down and have thousands of pounds of downforce, you don't have to look around a loader bucket to line up, and you can auger mutliple holes without moving the tractor.
How do you have your loader bucket PHD plumbed?

Just guessing on the size of the dug out and it maybe bigger. I finally got pictures of the dig on my laptop and just have to figure out how to transfer and post here. I spend most of my time working with my hands and little time left to hone computer skills. Just enough to be able perform my job

I dont forsee having to drill a lot of post holes after the project is done. In fact, how many will be determined if we keep the horse. It's my 14 yr old's and who knows how long he will remain interested once he has to help with the finances. With the economy going down hill, having a horse may not be prudent, less we end up eating it. No, I would not. The holes will be for a fence so we can keep the horse on our property and not having to pay for boarding. So after some research, the Leinbach 7300 was a good candidate. I had the Mahindra over a year now and have only 20 hrs, so you can see that it is not used that much. Just for back hoe and FEL work. The Massey is still the main work horse.
