5520 problems--trade

I have a JD 5520 with a 541 fel (in very nice condition)that I absolutly love,,I use it in the woods, making hay, and around the sugarhouse,,it is the nicest tractor that I have run,,,,,the problem is the other day I put it in park (was not moveing) and let the clutch out and SNAP,,broke the parking pin off,,,,luckily it was under warrenty,,the dealership said lots of times when this happens it destroys the tranismission and it can cost up to 10,000 to fix,,,,,,,,the warranty on this tractor runs out the first of the year,,I cant see me having 10,000 to fix this the next time it happens,,,,as much as I hate to say it I am thinking trade,,,,,the dealership has a JD 6200 and a rebuilt 730 that I think I can get in trade,,I was looking for feedback on the 6200 and the 730 and feedback on the trade idea..................Thanks Parker

I would think that when someone wants to trade because of forseen problems they trade for a newer tractor, not an older one.

You'd be going down in HP from 75 to 66 PTO, up in weight at least 800 lbs. The 6200 is quite a bit larger (length, height, etc. ) isn't it?

Why don't you keep the tractor and just buy an extended warranty on it? I would then get rid of it later before the extended ran out, that would be a selling point later and besides you may never have any more problems.

What type of tranny do you have? If PowerReverser, was a pin on the lever's linkage? What did it destroy, the cases, clutches, gears/shafts???? How much was parts and how much was the labor?

This is the first I've heard of this problem.

The 6200 is a bigger frame model with less HP. Not so sure about the 730.

What is a "sugarhouse"?

A building where sap that has been collected from the sugar maple tree is boiled turning it (eventually) into maple syrup. Reduction is something like 40 gallons of sap for 1 gallon of maple syrup.
