5425/5525 John Deere issues on filter/separator

Has anyone found an alternative to the stock fuel water separator?
If the machine sits a week it is hard to start with lots of white smoke.
I have read an extensive post in the past on this, but it looks like all they are doing is replacing old bad parts for new bad parts.
I can't believe JD has not recalled this....is anyone aware of a service bulitin?

If you have a cab tractor or a high platform (IOOS) open station, there have been some problems with fuel drain back. The problem is not in the filter. Alot of the time, replacing the rubber fuel lines and installing a check valve and prefilter in the suction line is all that is needed to repair the problem. I have had a couple of problem childs that I ended up installing an electric fuel pump between the tank and filter to help out. There is a bulletin out describing how to hook up the fuel pump and rearrange the fuel lines to make the system self bleeding. Ask your dealer about solution 54399.
