The 542 loader has links between the bucket and bucket cylinders, the 553 does not. What are these links for? To give the cylinders more leverage when curling the bucket? To let the bucket dump at a greater angle? It looks like the 553 will pickup about 400lbs more than the 542, both are NSL. Does the 553 have bigger cylinders? I could not find any specs on JD website. I only got a message "no john deere model found"

You're looking at 2 different spec loaders. The 553 is a standard loader and replaced the 512 and 522 where the 563 replaced the 542. The 563 has the same links on the bucket cylinders, it allows for greater rollback and dump angles.

Thanks, I'll check into the 563. Dealer told me the 553 now replaced the 542, never mentioned the 563. I was thinking it must be for bigger tractors than a 5425/5525. I'll see if JD site gives any specs.
