I have a chance to buy a 1998 5410 1211 hrs 65 hp john deere diesel liquid cooled mfwd 2 scv's syncshuttle transmission cab/heat/air 541 loader with brand new 73'' inch bucket very clean machine want $26000 is this a fair price?

Make sure all the gauges work, that instrument cluster is NOT cheap. Check the feel play on the clutch it should be half inch, if less could mean clutch wear.

If it has a cab I would say that is fair, if not too high. Looking at the prices below.

I have a 2000 5410 w/o the cab. It's a really good machine. I have had no problems with mine. Does it have the SL loader? Definitely a big step up with the SL:thumbsup:

That's quite a bit more "refined" model than the e... :laughing: You're moving right up to a e limited tractor!

Low hours. Sounds good.. One question, though. Why'd they put a new bucket on the loader? Kinda makes me nervous that the machine has had some rough loader use. Check it over - if you can. Tweaked or real loose loader arms, wet cylinders, etc. And check for any clutch - transmission problems.

Clutches are about $1100-1200 USD plus labor and I am changing mine now but I have double the hours. However, hours are not necessarily a good indicator of how much life you will get out of a tractor clutch.
Does the tractor have power reverse option? If so , the fact that a new bucket is on the unit, might indicate extensive use of the bucket as power reverse is an option that makes forward and aft direction changes effortless. Those transmission components are expensive if weak from heavy use.
