I've been looking (internet and brochure) at the 5400 series (5435 & 5445) and wondered if anyone has one. What is the difference between the engines in the 5435 and the 471 & 481?
Also between the 5445 and 5455, what is the difference in the engine to get an extra 10 hp, both have the same engine and turbocharger?

This will be for an approx. 250 acre hay/cattle operation, the 471 is probably my best bet but the 5400 series in a cab would be very nice to feed with in the winter and even nicer to work in in the summer.

You can now get the 471 with a factory cab.

I opted to take a left over 4345 because of price and I am very happy with it right now.I know its not the 5400.But I also owned a 471 4x4 no cab and it is your basic old fashioned tractor.Few parts and no thrills but extremly easy to use and maintain.I plan on getting another one in the next year. The 5400 is going to be ALL electric where the 400 are all linkage, some people might have issue with all the switches and relays that can go out.The cab on the 471 is small and I hit my head getting in and out,the 5400 cabs are nice and big.on the 4300 series the 4345 and 4355 share the same motor and the 45 is supposed to be able to be tuned up to the 55's power through the feul pump also.I was going to do a parts take off on the turbo and stuff to be sure before I had it done but mine uses alot of feul now so turning it up will just make that worse. For hay it has plenty of power and the only thing I would want more power for is when pulling my 210 jd disc. Oh,another thing about the 471 was getting on and off with shifters in the way but you can get it with a platform(standard with cab).

I saw that in the MF online brochure. The physical brochure I had is from last years models.
That's one thing I really like about the 471 is that it is old fashioned and simple, easy to work on and maintain for a long time.
I also saw the 4300's and I noticed they had a large cab, which would be nice to sit in all day I'm sure.

I have looked at both and priced both tractors. The 471 and 481 are decent tractors, but made in Brazil and quality of tractor is not the same as the 5400 series or the older 4200 or 4300 series. Cheapest price on 5435 2wd CHA that I have seen is 28,500, special sale.... in TN. The 5400 series have the new 268 cu in engines that meet the Tier emissions testing requirements. The transmission is quite nice and shuttle shift is standard as well. Frankly I really liked the 5435. The specs are outstanding even on the smallest 5435.

The 5400 Series feature both:
- the standard mechanical shuttle
- an optional power shuttle

There are also other options such as Hi-Vis sheet metal, Visi Roof cab and all of the 5400's come standard with ELC (Electronic Lift Control).
