5264D Help, thumping noise while driving

Well i was driving the tractor and when I went to back up it made a thumping noise and I could feel it under my seat. When I went forward, the same thing. Looked under the tractor and it looks like it may be where the drive shaft connection is in the back and it looks like it maybe rubbing on the frame. But when I put it in nuetral and push either forward or back I do not hear it, only when its in gear. Is is possible that the tranny is slipping. See ing some post before this it sounds like this series has had some problems, I bought this second hand last year so it is out of warranty (2006), only has 171 hours on it. If there was a recall I doubt any work was done, how do I find out if there was a recall on this model? Any ideas on what maybe what's wrong? Had to wait 3 weeks for a back order on a belt and finally got to mow today then this happens - help!

Trying to figure things out on this, it rolls in neutral fine, Still goes in forward and reverse but it feels /sounds like something is catching in the gear box. Makes the thumping noise as you go forward more than in reverse. Any ideas on what it might be, axle, gears? Thanks!

My guess is your ring and pinion gears inside the transmission. Hope I am wrong but have seen it before.

That is what happened on my 7264D.

Before you borrow trouble you may not have, check your lug bolts on the wheels and if you have separate wheel weights, check their mounting bolts. a loose wheel will make some expensive sounding noises.

Taking it too the dealer tomorrow, did get some correspondence back from CC and they said since I bought it used from a dealer that there is no warranty but depnding on what the problem is they may cover some costs so we will see. I wrote a email pretty much to the point that you would think that since there was a safety recall on the tranny and that this machine only has 180 hrs(60 when i bought it) on it that CC would step up to the plate especially since this series is known to have problems in this area. **** its justing getting broke in. Plus I haven't made a stink on the electrical, parking brake, differential, hydraulic fluid leaks that I am having issues with.

Cricket 185 - what was the cost for the repair? Did CC help for some of the costs? If its several thousand dollars I am not in the position to fix it, I may have to buy a cheap rider to get me by until more funds are available.

Well got it to the dealer and as we are pulling it off the trailer he said sounds like it needs some dental work ie gears. Couldn't believe all of the cubs in for service issues. Says it could be 3-4 weeks to get it back _ wonderful.

New update, dealer called and they found metal in the oil in the tranny. Cub said they would pick up the parts but the labor could be 16 hours or more. A whole day just to get it apart. Going to try and send Cub another message and see if they will at least go halvies on the labor bill. Stay tuned!

Hey,
CC covered my whole labor bill to install the shift kit. If you had a blown ring gear, you might get away with all the labor as long as the do the shift kit at the same time. Did you ever get in touch with Gary MacPhail from CC? he got the job done for me.

Another update, they need to replace the gears and a shift kit on the tranny and of course those parts for the kit are on back order. Won't see the parts until late June so its going to be July before I get it back. They did replace the cooling fan and drive belt while they were in there at their cost but labor is still up in the air. I did talk to Cub and said to wait and see what the labor bill was and possibly split it.SO being pretty good so far. Keep you posted!

Still no parts, having to pay to mow my 3 acres of ground is getting expensive and still have 2 ac that I just let go. Maybe i can use this in the negoiations on the labor bill, as the dealer has not worked on this model before and is already over 20hrs just to get it apart and diagnos the problem. I just want my tractor back!!!!!!!

Finally got it back after almost 8 weeks, Cub picked up all the parts and part of the labor, still cost me $1200 in labor charges since this dealer had never worked on one of these before. Cub also had them replace some other parts while they had it all apart and I do appreciate that. Hopefully no more issues for a long time, going to baby her just in case.

Wow.
I had an issue also.
After they fixed the machine, the REPLACEMENT gears sheared off after 3 hours using the FEL & box scraper!!!
The dealer came out the next business day and tore it down again. Cub paid the whole bill, again.
It's running fine now. LOL.
BTW, do you have any interest in my 60" MMD?
I'm getting a 54" PTO finishing mower.
(I hate pulling the deck to do earthwork)

I already have the mower deck but thanks anyway. Sorry to hear about your troubles, the dealer mechanic told me that he was speaking to another dealer and said these models are very touchy and have quite a few problems. but most of them seem to be the 4WD units not the 2 wheel drive for some reason. I plan on babying it from now on, can't afford another $1,200 bill.

are you still thinking about selling your deck if so im in the market
