My Cub 5252 recently had a failure of the hourmeter, tach and fuel gauge. The tach and hourmeter are blank, like no power. I was hoping to find a 3A fuse blown but no such luck, I checked, unplugged and plugged the harness to the dash, pushed wires around, still no go.

I thought someone might have experienced this?

The tractor still runs fine, hate to lose the hourmeter though.
The dash assembly is $300. I did download wiring diagrams and can identify the 12V supply to the dash, I probably should trace the ground also.

Thanks,
Curt

I discovered today that the PTO is also out. I found the wiring harness diagrams but really need the schematic. Does anyone have a 5000 series service manual they could scan the schematic from, I sure would appreciate it.

Or maybe it's online somewhere?

Thanks,
Curt

The service manuals for the 5000, 6000 and 7000 tractors don't have the wiring diagrams. According to the service manuals you have to order 772-9085A-CD from Cub Cadet at 1-800-800-7310 to get them. If I had a copy I'd post a link.

Hey Ohioguy, I have an 04 5252 and have exactly the same problem as you. I was having intermittent problems with the PTO. After cutting grass for a while the pto would not re-engage if I turned it off. Today my PTO started just cutting out while cutting. I noticed I was also losing power to the tach and fuel gauge at the same time. I think it must be caused by one of the other interconnects. I will send you a manual if you want.

Cub5K,
The manual would be greatly appreciated!

I rarely have my Cubs worked on by the dealer, but this time, I had them pick it up.
I just prefer to do that work myself, but I'm busy with a number of other things, so off it went.

I let it sit out overnight and when they came to pickit up, the tach, hourmeter and PTO were working again. I talked to the Cub guys the next day to tell them the electrical was intermittent and currently working and they hinted the dash and harness have a field correction, I'll let you know the outcome.

I had them take it anyway because the throttle won't hold and the muffler is broken at both header joints. I was planning on fixing the throttle (replacing the bungee cord to the choke to hold it) just couldn't find the time. This has been corrected by Cub twice under warranty?

So I'm using my backup mower, an 1872 and the first mowing I catch a root and break a gauge wheel. I fabricated a set out of PT lumber and ordereded replacements.

The second mowing, the regulator failed, and the grass is growing wildly....

But I am sure it could be a lot worse.
Cuz I'm still breathin in and out!

Thanks for the offer on the manual, I would greatly appreciate it!

Curt

Curt,

I would definitely like to know what they say the problem is with your tractor. There are so many interlocks that its hard to track them all down. The main clue that I can find is that I lose power to both the dash and PTO. I know I'm completely losing power because the dash goes dead and the PTO kicks off. When I tested today they both turned on and off every few seconds, just like a loose connection. They are powered separately from the ignition switch so my guess is either a bad ground or I'm losing power from the switch.
Let me know where I can email the manual.

Curt,

Forgot to mention about the muffler. My original one cracked and I welded it cause they wanted $130+ just for the muffler. I recently found a new one on ebay for about $60. It also cracked within the first hour. I think nex time I will make a muffler.

Well my problem turned out to be a loose ground bolt. Cleaned terminals and tightened bolt and everything is good.
