Hi all, I am located in southern Maryland and was wondering if anyone knows of someone in the U.S. who can rebuild my generator to operating condition. Any help is apreciated. Regards, James

I'm not in your area.. but hit your phone book and look for alternator / starter shops in your local.. many of those rebuild gennies. Also electric motor places.. etc.

If it can't be rebuilt.. you can still get repops.

First. are you sure the genny is bad?

have you motor tested it and full field tested it?

Don't forget the reg and wireing too.

PS.. welcome to TBN.

Just found about five local guys who could rebulid it. It wont motor. not sure how to field test. Thanks, Ive read alot of your replies and hope you would be the first to reply. I have totally rewired this tractor plus a new regulator. Starts and runs well, just doesnt charge. Regards, James

if it won't motor then you needent worry about a full filed test.

It has a hard fault.. like field or armature or brushes/brushholders that will need to be addressed first.

once you get it back and installed.

jump bat hot to armature with a jumper wire to polarize it and you should be good to go if the reg and wireing is good.

Okay, took it apart and discovered that the wire running from a field to the field stud is cut, so now it is too short to re wire. Any ideas of how to fix this? already coarse emery clothed the armiture and fine emery clothed the commutator. I cant get the bolt for the field stud off beacue it seems to be some kind of a carrige bolt with a long, plastic insulator. I probably will gind it off with my dremel, but will need a replacement. Any ideas, Regards, James

the broke wire, if not shorted to ground coul be crimp connected or soldered. field circuit current is low amps.. just a few..
