2005 JD 5103
I've been looking for a smaller tractor for quite some time with loader, shredder, etc. and finally picked one up 2 weeks ago. What do you all think of this price:

2005 JD 5103 2WD
512 FEL (quick detach bucket)
400 hours
6' Rhino SE6 shredder (like new)
6' Box Blade - Armstrong Ag (No use - like new)
5' 3-point tandem disc (not very good shape)

$14,000

The tractor was kept under a carport out of weather and looks like new. Was on a small 40 acre farm that was used mostly for shredding. I thought it was a fairly good deal. The local dealers would retail these at $13,600 or $14,000 for just the tractor/loader.

I grew up on 150+hp tractors so something this small is definitely a change for me to get used to, especially hearing the noise of everything when I'm used to sitting in a cab.

5103 is Indian in origin. I don't know if they assemble it there from parts here or they do the whole thing in India. I think you got a good deal specially for all the implement to boot. It is difficult to beat for the price/performance category. It is plain jane which is nothing wrong with than. it should be good machine for small haying operation and all the chores. My buddy has a 5005 series , with FWA and He could not be happier with what he got.

Yea, it will mostly be used to shred some minor acreage, for cutting and raking hay and cleaning up some McCartney Rose that seems to be taking over our area. Great-grandfather planted it as a permanent fence-line, but has turned into a permanent nuisance. At least the quail, deer and dove like it for shelter.

It's not hard to justify filling up a 18-20 gallon tank of diesel vs. a 50+ gallon tank on the 100+ hp tractors.

I bought 5203 in 2005 with 512 for 18,600 new. With the other attachments, looks to me a fair price.

You will like the tractor. It will do what you want.

I've got a 5103 (2008) and so far it's done everything I've asked of it.
